Scam Alert: Beware of Fraudulent Emails

Dear FIATA Member,
We have recently become aware of fraudulent emails being sent to individuals, falsely claiming to be from FIATA, designed to trick recipients into revealing personal or financial information.
What is Happening?
Scammers are sending fake emails that appear to come from FIATA, often using urgent or alarming language to prompt immediate action. These emails may:
- Refer to your FIATA membership or event participation with incorrect or inflated payment information
- Contain links to fake login pages or payment portals
- Include personal details sourced elsewhere to appear credible
What To Do?
Most scams can be safely ignored. However, we recommend the following actions to stay S.A.F.E.
- Stop before responding to unexpected emails or clicking on links. If you receive an email and are unsure of its legitimacy, do not click on any links or download attachments.
- Assess the sender's identity and the nature of the request.
- Flag any message that seems unusual, especially those asking for personal or payment details.
- Escalate the issue to your IT team or supervisor before taking any action.
To check your membership status or upcoming renewals, log into the FIATA Member Area, using the primary email address, displayed in the Members Directory
If you suspect you have clicked on a suspicious link, we advise you to monitor your bank or credit card accounts and alert your financial institution of any unusual activity
Report a scam
You can report suspicious communications by contacting us at legal@fiata.org. Please include the full email header and any attachments for our review.
Protective Best Practices
- Enable two-step authentication where available
- Bookmark www.fiata.org to avoid visiting lookalike websites
- Be cautious of messages that pressure you to act quickly or request sensitive information
